To understand our future evolution we need to look to our past. Will our descendants be cyborgs with hi-tech machine implants, regrowable limbs and cameras for eyes like something out of a science fiction novel? Might humans morph into a hybrid species of biological and artificial beings? Or could we become smaller or taller, thinner or fatter, or even with different facial features and skin colour? Of course, we don’t know, but to consider the question, let’s scoot back a million years to see what humans looked like then. For a start, Homo sapiens didn’t exist. A million years ago, there were probably a few different species of humans around, including Homo heidelbergensis, which shared similarities with both Homo erectus and modern humans, but more primitive anatomy than the later Neanderthal. Over more recent history, during the last 10,000 years, there have been significant changes for humans to adapt to. Agricultural living and plentiful food have led to health problems that we’ve used science to solve, such as treating diabetes with insulin. In terms of looks, humans have become fatter and, in some areas, taller.
All of Elon Musk’s companies have one thing in common, using existing technologies n some new way to solve a problem no one thought to solve. He is not about pushing science forward but about using technology in new ways. “Warp Drive” was a concept invented by the authors of the 1960s Star Trek TV series to move the plot forward. It is fiction. The mark of a good science fiction writer is that he can make his made-up fake science seem like it might be real, at least until the end of the show. It seems these authors were too good, and they have fooled a generation of fans into thinking that the show actually predicts the future. But be assured that all the technology of that show was secondary to the story. It worked as it did because it was best for storytelling If you think about how a real-world “warp” might work, then perhaps you don’t need a spaceship because the wrapped space can be inside an office building on Earth and you go to some other planet by walking down the hallway and opening the door to the planet “Zookoo-9”. But the authors wanted a show that had spaceships with a bridge crew. So they made up warp drive as a kind of spaceship engine. Other Sci-fi shows have actually made it to be inside a building on Earth. It is fiction, so you can make it as you like. But still, the Star Trek version is so good that people on Quora ask if the technology will ever be real. No. The idea was made up out of thin air for an old TV show.
LOCATION: About six miles off the coast of Malibu's Point Dume, in California BACKSTORY: For decades, reports of UFO (unidentified flying object) and USO (unidentified submerged object) sightings along the Malibu coast have been fairly common. Rumors of an alien base, or portal, in this area are nothing new, but in recent years, they have come to the fore within the UFO research community. The attention, specifically to this location, is largely due to reports of a stadium-shaped "structure" about 2,000 feet underwater, widely known as Sycamore Knoll. Some refer to it as an anomaly while others believe is an alien base. It's believed to be between two-and-a-half and three-miles wide. In 2014, radio personality Jimmy "Captain of Conspiracy" Church brought the matter up on his show Fade to Black, referring to the area as a "hub of USO/UFO activity going back 40 years." Church questioned whether it could be natural or proof of an entrance to something inland—perhaps another Area 51 (the massive aircraft-testing facility in the Nevada desert that has long been the subject of UFO theories and investigations, even after more solid explanations were provided by the government)—or something not yet considered. He said it was "potentially the biggest breaking story in ufology since Area 51." But not everyone in the UFO research community was convinced. Robert Stanley, a UFO researcher and the editor of Unicus magazine, the self-described "magazine for earthbound extraterrestrials," reports having noticed this mysterious spot via Google Earth several years prior to Church's announcement, but says he didn't report it publicly as he was unable to substantiate its authenticity. Stanley says he doesn't know what the anomaly is, but he does offer a few thoughts. "It feels like a red herring," he says. "This is some sort of weird distraction. It may be because Point Mugu [which is nearby] is a very large, powerful naval base that they don't want people to think of in terms of [it being a] secret military base." Preston Dennett, another UFO researcher and author of more than 20 books on paranormal and supernatural phenomena, is less skeptical. He’s believed in the alien base theory for years. "I was convinced there was something there before this Malibu anomaly was publicized," he says.

At least two dozen planets outside the solar system might be better for life than Earth. These planets are just a little older, a little wetter, a little warmer and a little larger than Earth is, researchers wrote Sept. 18 in the journal Astrobiology. All of these factors could mean that some of these planets are the best places to search for extraterrestrial life. "We have to focus on certain planets that have the most promising conditions for complex life. However, we have to be careful to not get stuck looking for a second Earth because there could be planets that might be more suitable for life than ours," University of Washington astrobiologist Dirk Schulze-Makuch said in a statement.
Cities are part of the system we’ve invented to keep people alive on Earth. People tend to like cities, and have been congregating in them ever since the invention of agriculture, 10,000 or so years ago. That’s why we call it civilisation. This origin story underlines how agriculture made cities possible, by providing enough food to feed a settled crowd on a regular basis. Cities can’t work without farms, nor without watersheds that provide their water. So as central as cities are to modern civilisation, they are only one aspect of a system. There are nearly eight billion humans alive on the planet now, and that’s a big number: more than twice as many as were alive 50 years ago. It’s an accidental experiment with enormous stakes, as it isn’t clear that the Earth’s biosphere can supply that many people’s needs – or absorb that many wastes and poisons – on a renewable and sustainable basis over the long haul. We’ll only find out by trying it.

In 2022, Phi Phi island is open, and the beaches and other nearby islands are more beautiful than ever. The island looks quiet, and the majority of shops, restaurants and hotels are still closed. There are just a few visitors every day, locals and expats for most. You still can eat well, shop a bit and easily ride a longtail boat to the nearby islands and other beaches. In summary, the island is as beautiful, and nature is recovering nicely, but it is also sad to see so many shops closed and the empty dark streets after 9 pm. Like many pages on Phuket 101, the story on this page describes Phi Phi before COVID-19. We will update it once travel resumes.
